Welcome to SHONAI ZAKKO, a Japanese restaurant specializing in traditional Japanese cuisine like Sashimi, Tempura and so on. The restaurant has two floors with six tatami rooms which can accommodate 60 customers. A counter seat in front of an aquarium is also available.
SHONAI ZAKKO TASTES
Our dishes show the blessings of nature here in Shonai area where the ocean is close enough to have fresh fishes with a good harvest of various food throughout the year. Keeping authentic Japanese cuisines, the restaurant has developed its own style of dishes that will change with the seasons.

Our chef, Shota Saito joined “GASTRÓNOMA2018” in Valencia in which is known as a harbor city locating in the southeast part of Spain as the representative from Tsuruoka-city government. He provided the dishes collaborating western and eastern under the theme of “RUTA DE LA SEDA (means Silk Road)”. He got a chance to interact with the chefs from all over the world and got to know the cutting edge of the world cuisine today.

Our chef, Ryoichi Saito, as one of the young talented chefs in Tsuruoka, was sent on a mission by Tsuruoka-city government to introduce Shonai’s food culture in the city of Bilbao in which the capital of Basque in Spain is located. He arranged Shonai’s cuisine with their local ingredients and served these dishes with Michelin-starred chefs. He had an opportunity to get to know the traditional Basque cuisine and how Basque food culture is rich through host chefs in Bilbao. Also, he cooked Shonai’s cuisine with local students in a cooking school in order to share how rich Shonai’s cuisine is as well as Bilbao’s.
